The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) and the 11 Police Stations spread to 98 barangays of this city are currently conducting counter measures to ensure safety of the community.

This, as the prevailing peace and order situation in the city remains relatively peaceful despite the continuous threats coming from the Abu Sayyaf Group, the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and other criminal groups.

Sr. Insp. Shellah Mae Chang, spokesperson of the ZCPO, told the press briefing last Monday that detailed personnel will be assigned at the different junctions, intersections, central business district and terminals.

She said the conduct of random checkpoints will continue under “Oplan: Sita and Bulabog.”

She added that the intensified intelligence networking and coordination with other law enforcement agencies will continue as well.

Meanwhile, Insp. Chang reported that 11 shooting incidents were recorded in the month of October this year, of which six incidents occurred in the streets, while five happened in the house premises of the victims.

At least three cases have been filed against the suspects.

October’s shooting incidents were higher compared with October last year’s record of 9.

Robbery cases have decreased by 39.51% from 162 for the period Oct. 1-31, 2016 to only 98 for Oct. 1-25, this year.-(Vic Larato)
