When the flag of independence was waved over Luzon, Zamboanga City still remained under Spanish rule. In Zamboanga’s darkest hour, one brave man united all the different people of Zamboanga to battle the Spanish Colonizers.
General Vicente S. Alvarez, the man who refused to leave Zamboanga, unified the Muslims, Christians, and the Pagans, and lead the charge against the Spaniards and through decisive battles won the freedom of Zamboanga City.
On this day, May 18, we remember the bravery and heroism of General Vicente S. Alvarez. May we always remember the legacy of one of Zamboanga City’s finest hero.
