Christmas floods ruin P3.9M worth of agri’l crops

Heavy rains that triggered floods last Christmas day inundated P3.99 million worth of agricultural crops in at least 6 agricultural districts in the city.

A summary of damage assessment report prepared by the City Agriculturist Office, show that a total of 105.99 hectares of farms planted with rice in barangays Boalan, Talisayan, Recodo, Cabaluay, Culianan, Guisao and Bunguiao and assorted vegetables in Guisao, Cabaluay, Mercedes and Bungiao were damaged by the floods.

Of the total 105.99 hectares of farm affected, 98.09 hectares were planted with rice while 7.90 hectares were planted with assorted vegetables.

Affected farmers totaled 139.

City Agriculturist Carmencita Sanchez said affected farmers will be given assistance by the City Government to help them alleviate their plight.

Recall that the rains that triggered flooding left 1 person dead and over 1,000 families displaced in various barangays in the city. (Sheila Covarrubias)
