Beng launches free movies for Zambo’s senior citizens

Mayor Beng Climaco launched yesterday the free movies program for the city’s senior citizens, pursuant to an ordinance approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Under the ordinance initiated by Councilor Cesar Jimenez Jr., the senior citizens, who are bona fide members of the Federation of Senior Citizens of Zamboanga City, are entitled to watch free movies of their choice at least twice a month at any cinemas of KCC Mall de Zamboanga.

Climaco said this is another initiative of her administration’s social services, giving additional benefits to the elderlies as a way of thanking them for their contribution to the development of the city.

According to the mayor, when the proposal was presented to her, she instructed Jimenez and Councilor Rommel Agan, chair of the Committee on Appropriations, to go to Makati City and find out how the program can be implemented.

Makati is the first city in the country to give free movies to its senior citizens.

She said the city government and KCC Mall de Zamboanga had forge a partnership for the implementation of the program. Similar partnership will be forged with other malls with cinemas that will soon open in the city. Present at the launching were City Social Welfare and Development Officer Ma. Socorro Rojas, the Office of the Senior Citizens, Councilors Agan and Jimenez together District 2 Congressman Mannix Dalipe.-(Vic Larato)
