The city’s summer sports clinic will once again open its doors to young aspiring athletes this July.

The 25th Basic Sports Camp “Learn to Play a Sports Program” will officially commence on July 2 at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum, after being temporarily suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s Learn to Play program will be limited to individual and dual sports only. These sports disciplines are: Archery, Arnis, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Dancesports, Gymnastics, Karatedo, Pencak Silat, Sepaktakraw, Swimming, Table tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wushu, and E-One 7.

Participation is also limited to 1,400 participants ages 8-15 years old, maintaining classes at a 1:10 ratio under the supervision of the City Sports Office and 140 trainers.

According to the City Sports Office, only children with COVID-19 vaccinations will be allowed to join.

Application forms are available with the respective trainers of each sport. A limited number of forms are also available at the Sports Office at Grandstand.

Venues for each sport are still being finalized and will be announced later.

The Learn to Play a Sports Program is a month-long activity facilitated by the city government for youth development through sports. A number of athletes mentored under the Learn to Play have gone on to win medals and accolades in national and international sports competitions. (jasmine Mohammadsali)
