Zamboanga City is poised to receive its second Green Banner Seal of Compliance award from the National Nutrition Council and the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) in recognition of its exemplary intervention programs to eradicate malnutrition among its young population.
National Nutrition Council – IX Nutrition Officer III Elton Pelegrino shared the news during his presentation at the quarterly City Nutrition Committee (CNC) meeting held Tuesday, September 24.
This would be Zamboanga’s second consecutive regional Green Banner after getting a 91.75% rating during the Monitoring and Evaluation for Local Level Plan of Imprementation (MELLPI) Pro visit last month.
CNC is set to begin preparations to ensure the city obtains at least a 90% rating in next year’s MELLPI Pro assessment to clinch the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition (CROWN) award.
Meanwhile, City Nutrition Officer I Rowina Pagotaisidro has been named region’s most outstanding City Nutrition Program Coordinator (CPNC). She garnered a 100% rating and will contend for national honors in October.
Convened by City Mayor and CNC chairperson John Dalipe and presided by City Health Officer and City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite, the CNC meeting included presentations from School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) Coordinator Rowena Lusaya of the Department of Education – IX.
The committee likewise discussed challenges and issues faced in the implementation of the city’s nutrition program. (Claudine Uniana)
