Two fireworks-related injuries were reported during the New Year revelry in Zamboanga City.
No death, fireworks ingestion and stray bullet injury was recorded, according to the report of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the City Health Office (CHO).
The first case involved a 39-year old male from Barangay Tolosa sought medical treatment at the Mindanao Central Sanitarium 12:58am of January 1 due to injuries in his left forearm caused by the fountain pyrotechnic.
The second case, on the other hand, involved a 33-year old female from Barangay Calarian, who sought treatment at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) at 12:30am of January 1, due to injuries on her right thigh caused by kwitis, a kind of firecracker.
City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite said the 2 victims were given tetanus toxoid and anti-tetanus serum as part of the treatment procedure and were sent home later.
In 2021, Zamboanga City recorded zero firecracker-related injuries. (Sheila Covarrubias)
