The 3rd Paragames na Zamboanga officially opened Wednesday, September 18, 2025, at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex (JEMSC) in Baliwasan, gathering hundreds of athletes with disabilities from different barangays across the city.
This year’s event carries the theme, “With limitless abilities, comes an unbreakable spirit.”
Mayor Khymer Olaso, represented by Executive Assistant Rosendo Castillo III, emphasized that the Paragames is more than just a competition but a celebration of ability, perseverance, and unity. He highlighted the inspiration brought by the PWD community in building a society where no one is left behind.
City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) representative Susan Alvarez, in her welcome remarks, expressed gratitude to the City Government of Zamboanga headed by Mayor Olaso and the Sangguniang Panlungsod for their continued support to PWD programs. She added that while the sector has long faced challenges in accessing services, the new administration has given priority and emphasis to their needs.
Present during the opening program were Councilor Elbert ‘Bong’ Atilano Sr., Sports Division Head Cecilia Atilano, PDAU personnel, PWD Associations from various barangays and several others.
The Paragames features adaptive sports including Goal Ball, Sitting Volleyball, Para-Swimming, Chess, and Track-and-Field events, providing PWD athletes with opportunities to showcase their talents and strengthen camaraderie. (Sheyn Arambala) (photo credits: Jen Casido)
