The Zamboanga Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Team that Mayor Khymer Olaso dispatched to help and assist the earthquake-affected Cebu Province have accomplished its mission and is on its way back to Zamboanga City.

The second wave of relief assistance was directly handed over to Mayor Mariano Martinez of the Municipality of San Remigio, Cebu, one of the hardest hit areas during the 6.9 magnitude earthquake last September 29.

The relief items composed of rice, canned goods and water were turned over by City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Dr. Elmeir Apolinario who also heads the Zamboanga Rescue HADR.

Mayor Martinez extended his heartfelt gratitude to Zamboanga City especially Mayor Khymer Olaso for his generosity and support.

Mayor Olaso initiated the dispatch of a mercy mission from Zamboanga City to Cebu Province to demonstrate solidarity and as part of his commitment to helping people impacted by calamities.

The first batch of assistance that consisted of a 19-man rescue team and relief goods was sent to Bogo City following coordination with Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro.

Recall that Bogo City recorded the highest casualties with at least 30 fatalities and 180 injuries aside from the heavy damage to infrastructure and residential areas.

Thank you very much to the Zamboanga HADR Team! You did a good job!
