Zamboanga Dancesport Team brought honor and pride to the city after securing 48 medals at the Bailando Open Championship held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia from April 24 to 26, 2026, earning recognition from the City Government for their outstanding international performance.
City Sports Division Chief Dr. Cecil Atilano presented the young athletes and their coaches during the regular flag-raising ceremony Monday morning, June 15, where the team was recognized for its impressive medal haul composed of 21 gold, 19 silver, and 8 bronze medals.
Representing Mayor Khymer Olaso, Chief of Staff and Executive Secretary Celso Lobregat conveyed the local government’s continued support for programs that develop athletic skills, discipline, and camaraderie among young Zamboangueño athletes. He also expressed the mayor’s gratitude to the team for bringing distinction and pride to the city.
Following the recognition, athletes Bret Marcial and Athea Conte showcased their talents through a dance performance before city officials and employees. Both athletes previously represented Zamboanga City at the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur, where they also secured gold medals.
