The city’s annual summer sports program is set to officially start next month, continuing a tradition of youth development and mentorship for the 24th year in Zamboanga City.
The Basic Sports Summer Camp 2019 – Summer Learn to Play will kick off with an opening program on April 6, 4 PM, at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex with the expected attendance of participants and coaches of the 26 sport disciplines offered by the program.
Schedules and venues will be announced during the opening program. Meanwhile, the city sport’s division has released a tentative calendar of activities for the events of the month-long activity, which will be held in different barangays and school facilities.
Now on its 24th year, the summer sports camp will train children from 7-15 years old in their chosen sport in the course of one month, from April 6 to May 11.
The sport disciplines offered this year are archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, baseball/softball, body building, boxing, chess, dancesport, football/futsal, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, muay thai, pencak silat, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and e-one 7.
Each participant may only choose one sport to enroll in for the duration of the sports camp, which is offered free of charge. Registration is likewise free. Registration forms are available at the sports division office at the Grandstand. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
