In line with the celebration of Earth Month, the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) spearheads Tuesday, April 30, a mangrove planting activity in the coastal area (Zone 5) of barangay Dita in the east coast.

The activity is likewise in support of Mayor John Dalipe’s advocacy to plant one (1) million trees during his first in office.

Representatives from various local and national government agencies including non-government organizations participated in the event planting a total of 9,777 mangrove propagules in the 2.2 hectare planting site.

Among the species planted were 7,000 bakauan bangkaw; 1,777 bakauan babae; 1,000 bakauan lalake.

A public land, the planting site has been rehabilitated since 2023 based on a clearance granted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR), according to OCENR Assistant head Gerry Pollisco.

Since 2023, the area has been planted with a total of 23,000 mangrove propagules, to include the 9,777 planted today. (Sheila Covarrubias)
