Amid the roaring cheers and excitement of Zamboangueño basketball fans, Team Olaso and the visiting Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Legends battled fiercely to a thrilling 107-107 tie in a nail-biting finish at the Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum in Barangay Tetuan Sunday night, August 10.

Sponsored by B-Steel Sports in partnership with Furigay Colleges, Gem Furigay and the City Government of Zamboanga, the event featured basketball icons from the Golden Age Era of the 1990s alongside the city’s own homegrown talents led by Mayor Olaso.

Fresh off his 53-point performance in the recent Zamboanga Valientes Inter-Barangay Basketball League, Mayor Khymer Olaso once again dazzled fans by sinking crucial shots and directing plays that kept Team Olaso neck-and-neck with the PBA Legends led by Alvin Patrimonio. Both teams displayed remarkable skill and determination, making the intense matchup a true showcase of the Filipino’s enduring competitive spirit.

The evening began with the Hardam Flyers facing off against Ateneo Aguilas in an equally tense game that energized the packed crowd. Free general admission allowed basketball fans to witness two games celebrating the sport’s rich heritage and the city’s passion.

The showdown was a charity event with proceeds donated to the Women Crisis Center in Sta. Barbara and the Children in Conflict with the Law Center in Culianan. The turnover of the donations was done right after the event.

Nonetheless, during their courtesy visit to Mayor Olaso in City Hall, the PBA Legends pledged to continuously support sports programs that promote health, boost tourism and positively impact the overall welfare of Zamboangueños. (Arvin Midel) (photo credits: Kathy Wee Sit)
