Mayor Khymer Olaso, together with City Environment and Natural Resources Acting Head Gerry Pollisco on Tuesday inspects the odor-neutralizing organic product of Agrifix Farm and Development Supply, Inc. at the Material Recovery Facility at Sta. Cruz Bagsakan Composting Center.
The organic product, designed as a decomposer and odor neutralizer, works by moisturizing with water for just 30 seconds and actively destroying harmful microorganisms. It also has the potential to transform them into beneficial bacteria, thereby reducing foul odor and promoting healthier waste management.
Agrifix Operations Manager Ronan Rembert Lomongo presented the product to the mayor and explained its possible applications beyond markets, including septic tanks, ponds and other waste-prone areas. Lomongo emphasized that the technology can help address sanitation issues while supporting environmental sustainability.
Mayor Olaso, along with OCENR personnel, personally observed the product’s performance in neutralizing the unpleasant odor at the market’s Happy Soil area. The team noted its potential benefits but stressed that the organic product remains under careful study to ensure its effectiveness and suitability for wider use in the city.
Following the assessment, Mayor Olaso and Pollisco also conducted a random inspection of vendor premises to check compliance to proper waste segregation and good customer handling-practices. The move formed part of the city government’s commitment to instill discipline and maintain order in public markets.
The initiative reflects the city’s continuing efforts to explore innovative solutions for improving cleanliness, sanitation and environmental management across Zamboanga City. (Arvin Midel) (photo credits: Kathy Wee Sit)
