OCENR deploys trash-segregation trucks in CBD 6pm-6am

The Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) has deployed effective September 15, trash segregation trucks to the Central Business District (CBD) from 6pm to 6am to collect solid wastes, as the local government intensifies implementation and awareness on the Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) specifically on the no segregation, no collection policy.

Each truck is marked with either biodegradable or non-biodegradable wastes to distinguish the kind of waste it collects.

The OCENR reiterates its appeal to the public to strictly comply the SWMP.

Recall that Mayor John Dalipe has ordered the strict implementation of the SWMP with a new schedule of garbage collection in the CBD starting last September 15.

Based on the mayor’s directive, garbage must be segregated – the bio-degradable items (nabubulok) must be separated from the non-biodegradable (di nabubulok) waste. Setting out of solid waste for collection and disposal has also been modified to 6pm to 8pm.

Meanwhile, starting August until the end of September, the OCENR has been conducting series of orientation on SWMP for all business establishment operators and owners in the barangays pursuant to pursuant to Executive Order No. JD 2022-008 (An order mandating all Establishments in the City of Zamboanga to Secure a Solid Waste Management Certificate (SWMC).

The orientation is one of the requirements for the issuance of the SWM certificate, aside from the submission of the SWM plan and program in accordance with the guidelines under the 10-year SWM and the payment of prescribed certificate fee of P300. The Orientations are scheduled from August 2 to September 30, 2022 (Tuesdays thru Fridays). The OCENR through the barangays concerned individually calls/ communicates with business owners for the schedule. (Sheila Covarrubias)
