The City Government through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) are finalizing preparations for the observance of International Coastal Cleanup Sept. 16-17.
The activities include cleanliness drives in both the Great and Little Sta. Cruz Islands on September 16 and cleanup up in coastal barangays and industries in Recodo-Ayala areas on Sept. 17.
The OCENR is closely collaborating with other concerned agencies for the conduct of the activities.
The observance of the International Coastal Cleanup Day in the country is institutionalized by Presidential Proclamation 470 dated September 15, 2003. International Coastal Cleanup Day is a “global event that unites countries and people with one common goal: to show concern on the growing marine debris problem by removing trash/ debris along shorelines, rivers, lakes and waterways gathering data on the kind and volume of trash collected.” (Sheila Covarrubias)
