Dalipe urges residents to get booster shots

In support of the national directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ramp up booster coverage in the country, Mayor John Dalipe has urged Zamboangueños to get their booster shots as an added layer of protection versus COVID-19.

“Ta apela el Alcalde John Dalipe con el maga vivientes de Zamboanga para manda clava de booster shot. Uno este de omento manera para puede kita esta libre contra COVID,” said Executive Assistant Amado Natividad Jr. who represented and relayed the message of Mayor John Dalipe during the PinasLakas launch Tuesday morning, July 26 at the KCC Mall.

In his message, the local chief executive called on all sectors to work together to improve the city’s booster coverage; he also honored and recognized the city’s healthcare workers as modern-day heroes.

Zamboanga City served as the launching site in Region 9 for the nationwide PinasLakas campaign, a campaign which aims to administer booster shots to at least 50% of eligible populations in the nation and increase vaccination rate among senior citizens in the first 100 days of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration.

The campaign launch was attended by EA Natividad on behalf of Mayor John Dalipe, together with Department of Health IX Regional Director Joshua Brilliantes, DOH IX ARD Lenny Joy Johnson – Rivera, City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, and partners and representatives from different organizations and sectors.

As of July 20, 2022, the City Government through the Health Office has administered a total of 1,531.803 doses of COVID-19 vaccines since the start of the vaccination rollout.

Ninety-six percent (96%) or 687,530 individuals out of the targeted 716,960 population have received the first dose while 94% or 677,153 individuals have received the second jab and are considered fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 161,976 or 31% of the total fully vaccinated individuals received their first booster dose and 3% or 5,144 immunocompromised and those belonging to A1 and A2 priority groups have received their second booster. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
