Dalipe stands optimistic on new ZC airport project

Mayor John Dalipe stands steadfast in his ardent desire to have the long planned new Zamboanga City International Airport realized under his watch in tandem with his brother, the working Congressman Mannix Dalipe of District 2.

Barely two weeks in office, the young Dalipe has already convened two meetings on the new airport project, the first of which was Tuesday with Cong. Mannix and members of the ZC Airport Development Project Committee, and the second meeting was held this morning (Friday) together with the city assessors and the technical team.

With him as mayor and his brother in congress, Dalipe was optimistic that the new airport project will break ground as planned in Marcedes-Talabaan-Zambowoon area.

Having been the vice chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations in the 18th Congress, Cong. Mannix has worked hard to find the initial P200 million funding for the new ZC Airport Project under the General Appropriations Act of 2019 and additional P800 million in the 2020 GAA.

He explained that when the bill for the 2019 national budget was submitted to Congress, there was no appropriation for the new ZC International Airport Project.

It was only during deliberations that he was able to find and insert P200 million funding for the airport into the bill before it was enacted into law as the General Appropriations Acts of 2019.

Of the total amount, only P180 million was downloaded to the city government under the previous administration. The remaining P20 million will only be released once the P180 million shall been fully liquidated.

So far, 44 lots lad already been appraised for the purpose, of which 10 lots amounting to more or less P152 million pending for negotiation.

The Dalipe brothers vowed to pursue vigorously the new Zamboanga International Airport project and have it realized the soonest time possible, believing that it would propel Zamboanga City’s economic progress and development.-(Vic Larato)
