Dalipe recognizes Zamboangueño weightlifters; awards P1.5M incentive to athlete, coach

Mayor John Dalipe Monday morning led the City Government in recognizing the achievements of 4 Zamboangueño weightlifters who participated in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from July 15-25, 2022 and 38 others who joined the 2022 National Weightlifting Championships held in Tagbilaran City, Bohol from August 8-12.

Highlight of the simple recognition ceremony was the awarding of a check amounting to P700K to Rose Jean Amis Ramos for the 2 gold and 1 silver medals she hauled during the IWF World Youth Championships held in Mexico last June 12-17. Her coach, Allen Diaz also received P350K.

The cash incentive for medal haulers in national and international competitions is provided under Ordinance 565 which sets the incentive for a gold medal at P250K, P200K for silver and P150K for bronze medal in international competitions.

Meanwhile, Angeline Colonia of Pasobolong, Rose Jean Ramos of Mampang, Rosalinda Faustino of Pasobolong and Rosegie Ramos of Mampang captured a total of 12 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze as they represented the country in the Uzbekistant event.

Together with their coaches Allen Jayfrus Diaz and Gregorio Colonia, the 4 female weightlifters were presented with certificates of recognition for their sterling performance during the international event.

On the other hand, 38 weightlifters, to include the 4 participants in the Uzbekistant Championships were also honored during the flag raising ceremony for their achievement in the Bohol event as they garnered 15 gold, 14 silver and 13 bronze medals.

Zamboanga City was declared champion in the Girls Youth Division, Boys Youth Division, Women Junior Division, Men Junior Division, Women Open Division and first Runner up in the Men Open Division.

In addition to these achievements, Albert Ian de los Santos of Guiwan, was also named as Most Outstandaing Lifter in the Men’s Category while Rose Jean Raamos was the Most Outstanding Lifter for Women.

In his message, Mayor Dalipe has pledged his all out support to the athletes as he expressed hopes that the weightlifters will be Olympic gold medalists in the future just like their mentor Hidilyn Diaz. The mayor was joined by Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja and some members of the City Council during the simple recognition rites for the athletes highlighting the flag raising ceremony Monday.
