The conduct of festivals, commemorative celebrations and other tourism-related events for Zamboanga City is now under the jurisdiction of the City Tourism Office headed by Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Sarita Sebastian-Hernandez per memorandum order of Mayor John Dalipe.
In his Memorandum No. JDadm 2022-145 dated July 28, Mayor Dalipe also mandated the City Tourism Office to strengthen its tourism promotion and marketing programs, parallel to the new trends and practices of tourism promotions campaign.
Likewise, the mayor has designated Arthur Joshua S. Rodriguez, Executive Assistant II, to coordinate closely with Hernandez and to ensure that all tourism programs, projects and/or activities are implemented with approved plans and in a timely manner.
Business establishments and companies that want to be corporate partners of the upcoming Fiesta Hermosa 2022 and those who wish their events to be part of the festivities are requested to visit and/or write the City Tourism Office located at the entrance to Paseo del Mar.
In addition, Mayor Dalipe has also issued on July 29 Executive Order No. JD2022-016 “An order mandating the City Tourism Office to take charge of the overall tourism operations of the Sta. Cruz Islands, and the Forest Management Services and Wildlife, Protected Areas of the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) and the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of OCENR to handle the protection and conservation programs of the same.”
Dalipe’s executive order was anchored on Ordinance No. 2013-168, which provides that the “City of Zamboanga shall have the general supervision and control over the development, management, maintenance and operations of the Great and Little Sta. Cruz Islands’ Protected Landscape and Seascape.” Specifically, the City Tourism Office shall handle he management of the Great and Little Sta. Cruz Islands’ tourism activities to include the visitors’ handling services, destination information and promotions services, community development and capability building program.-(Vic Larato)
