Mayor John Dalipe Tuesday morning, honored 2 Zamboanguena athletes – Khana Kathrine Ventolero and Cyreine Jean Borce, who won medals during the 22 nd ASEAN Age-Group Chess championships held in Vientiane, Laos, August 21 to 31.
Also feted and presented with certificate of recognition was Samuel Lindayan, who clinched the title in the 14 th Bataan Death March 102 Ultra Marathon Championships (male category), held in Mariveles, Bataan from Sept. 7 – 8.
Ventolero and Borce were part of the Philippine team that clinched silver in the Rapid Chess- Girls 16. Ventolero also won a bronze medal in the standard chess- girls 10 category during the Laos competition. They were accompanied by coach Carlo Mark Florendo during the recognition rites held at the Office of the City Mayor.
Mayor Dalipe commended the athletes for bringing pride to the city and for exhibiting the world-class caliber that Zamboangueños are known for. He said their hard work, dedication and sportsmanship inspire his administration to work harder for the betterment of the sports and youth development program. (CMO-PIO)
