Dalipe: Bigger prizes await Fiesta Hermosa ’22 contests

The city government of Zamboanga through the City Tourism Office is in the thick of finalizing the calendar of events and budgetary requirements for the Fiesta Hermosa 2022 in October, and this early Mayor John Dalipe announced that all prizes for the various competitions will be higher and bigger than they were in previous years.

“Quiere yo el prizes di atun ahora debe mas grande or igual de last year basta hende abaha,” Dalipe said during the meeting Tuesday of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival Committee, in which he is the chairperson.

Mayor Dalipe also gave a specific instruction that any and all proceeds, and donations, whether in cash or in kind, from private partners and event sponsors must be coursed through the City Treasurer’s Office, which in turn will issue an official receipt for every bit of sponsorship fee or donation.

Among this year’s huge competition events are the Parade of Lights (Opening Salvo) on Oct. 1, Barangay Arco Competition Oct. 1-31, Mascota de Zamboanga Oct. 7, Chavacano Pop Music Festival Oct. 8, Regatta de Zamboanga Oct. 9 and the Grand Street Dance Competition Oct. 11.

However, the committee has yet to determine the prizes for these and other Fiesta Hermosa contests but definitely they must not be lower than last or previous year’s.

Initially, the Fiesta Hermosa 2022 has more or less P15 million budget, of which P12 million has been allocated in the first Supplemental Budget approved by the Sangguniang Panlugsod last week and P3.310 million in the current annual executive budget.

Meanwhile, Dalipe has approved this year’s festival theme “Celebracion de Colores” as proposed by the City Tourism Office.

City Tourism Officer Sarita Sebastian explained that the theme perfectly encapsulates Zamboanga City’s colorful history and the diverse cultures and traditions of its people.

She said “colores,” a Chavacano term for a combination of different colors, is also reflective of Mindanao’s tourism advocacy slogan “Colors of Mindanao” under the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) five-year plan.

Also discussed during the meeting were the venues of crowd-drawer events like the grandstand for the final showdown of the street dance completion, and Paseo del Mar or R.T. Lim Boulevard as exit point of the Parade of Lights.

Other activities include Dive Camp Safari at Once Islas Oct. 2, Fiesta Dance Reception Oct. 1-12 at IBT, Airport and Seaport, Zamboanga City Livestock and Poultry Fair Oct. 1-20 at Plaza Pershing, Badju Fashion Show and Competition Oct. 4 at Astoria Regency, WOW Sardinas Oct. 5 at Plaza del Pilar; Danza La Vida in Pasonanca and Lechon Asao Festival at Plaza Pershing on Oct. 10. Present during the meeting were ZHFC co-chairperson City Administrator Mario Yanga, Assistant City Administrator Cesar Raz, Executive Assistants Gio Perez and Arthur Joshua Rodriguez, Tourism Operations Officer Jessica Caroline Fabrigas, and representatives of the city budget officer and treasurer.-(Vic Larato)
