Mayor Beng Climaco Friday expressed gratitude to the outgoing Western Mindanao Command Chief LtGen. Arnel de la Vega for his commitment to service that ensured safety and security in Zamboanga City and the neighboring areas.
Climaco Friday morning together with District II Representative Mannix Dalipe and District I Representative-elect Jawo Jimenez graced the change of command ceremony which was presided by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr.
The mayor said de la Vega’s leadership and strong collaboration with the police and the local government units particularly in Zamboanga City has contributed to the successful efforts in anti-piracy, anti-kidnapping, anti-smuggling and other forms of lawlessness.
De la Vega, who served the Wesmincom since March 23, 2018 to June 28, 2019 is retiring soon and will be succeeded by MGen. Cirilito Sobejana, a recipient of the Medal of Valor, Philippines’ highest military award for courage, and former commander of the 6th Infantry Division based in Cotabato City.
Mayor Climaco Thursday night presented de la Vega with a plaque of recognition acknowledging his commitment to service and tireless efforts to keep Zamboanga and Mindanao safe and secure.
Meanwhile, the chief executive welcomed Sobejana to the new post as she assured the City Government’s firm commitment to support all military efforts to sustain peace and security in Zamboanga City and the neighboring areas. (Sheila Covarrubias)
