Climaco orders measures for schools in danger zones

Mayor Beng Climaco has instructed the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) headed by Dr. Elmeir Apolinario to immediately undertake remedial measures for public schools situated in danger zones.

Climaco said there are schools in far flung barangays that are situated in areas highly vulnerable to different kinds of risk like landslide, flood, etc.

She cited for instance the Limpapa National High School, which is located right at the foot of a big mountain, giving higher risk to students and teachers in case of any untoward incident.

Thus, the chief executive has instructed Dr. Apolinario to coordinate with the Department of Education through the City Schools Division Office to take immediate remedial measures for Limpapa National High School.

The mayor hinted that the city government will buy a lot outside of a danger zone where to relocate the school, but in the meantime remedies have to be taken to ensure the safety of students and teachers in Limpapa.

‘We need to do the remedial measures as soon as possible,” Climaco said as she also appealed to the barangay officials and school head of Limpapa to coordinate with Dr. Apolinario and discuss whatever measures available for the safety of students and teachers, pending a new campus.-(Vic Larato) (photo: Kathy Wee Sit)
