A total of 200 fruit-bearing trees were planted during a tree-growing activity led by Mayor Khymer Olaso Saturday, June 13, at the Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-abong, Pasonanca.

Organized by the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) under Gerry Pollisco, the activity included the planting of 80 lanzones, 70 durian, 20 guyabano, 20 macopa, and 10 mango trees.

Mayor Olaso explained that the initiative supports the city government’s goal of creating greener communities and increasing the number of fruit-bearing trees that residents can benefit from in the future. This is also positioning Zamboanga City as a benchmark for environmental and urban greening programs, he added.

Joining the mayor during the activity were city government officials and employees, barangay officials and other agencies.

The latest tree-growing activity follows a similar initiative conducted last week, during which another 200 fruit-bearing trees were planted. The city government aims to plant at least 10,000 fruit-bearing trees across the city through a series of planting activities. (Jay Mark Esteban) ( photo credits: OCENR)
