Mayor Khymer Olaso rushed to barangay Curuan in the east coast Thursday night, September 18 to help facilitate response, as flashfloods hit at least 11 sitios due to heavy rains in the area.

Rescue teams from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office including the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection as well as the Curuan Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee were deployed and collaborated in rescuing residents who were trapped in their houses.

Based on initial profiling by City Social Welfare and Development Office personnel, 17 families with 90 individuals were evacuated to the Curuan Basketball Court due to rising waters.

Mayor Olaso provided bread and water to the affected individuals, as the CSWDO was expected to distribute relief goods and hygiene kits, mats and blankets after the profiling.

District 2 Congressman Jerry Perez as well as Vice Mayor Beng Climaco also proceeded to the area to assist the victims. CDRRMO Chief Dr. Elmeir Apolinario was also om site.

The affected sitios include Mango Drive, sitio Camias, Market site, River site, Poblacion, Parusan, Inner Presa, sitio Betong , sitio Presa, sitio Mina, and Urban Poor. (CMO-PIO) (photo credits: Mayor Khymer Olaso livestream/ ZCDRRMO)
