City paves way for cashless payments in public markets, local transport

In line with Mayor John Dalipe’s commitment to promoting digitalization, the City Government spearheads a 5-day Onboarding Session to pave the way for the implementation of the PalengQR PH program, which aims to build the digital payments ecosystem in the country by promoting cashless payments in public markets and local transportation, particularly tricycles.

The onboarding session, being held at the City Coliseum in Tetuan from September 9-13 is in preparation for the formal launching of the PalengQR Ph program, slated September 19, at the Main Public Market in Magay.

The onboarding session is aimed at equipping around 100 market vendors per session, particularly from Sta. Cruz Market, Magay Public Market, and IBT Night Market including transport operators, on the use and benefits of the PalengQR system.

The session on Monday kicked off with a lecture on Digital Financial Literacy, CyberHygiene, and Consumer Assistance provided by various Financial Service Providers (FSP).

City Investment and Promotions Services Head Raisa Fernandez said the FSP’s will visit public markets across the city on September 13 and 17, to test the effectivity of the PalengQR system.

Helping facilitate the onboarding session were representatives from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Regional Office IX and BASULTA, as well as personnel from FSP’s including PayMaya, BPI, USSC, Metrobank, Gcash, and Maybank.
