City operates Night Market in Baban St. Sept 5-Oct. 31

With the success of the Night Market in Rizal Street downtown, the City Government is expanding operations to Baban Street in Baliwasan.

This, as Mayor John Dalipe issued Executive Order No. JD 2022-042 launching a night market along Ricardo Baban Street in Baliwasan and creating the Night Market Committee (NMC) tasked to regulate the operation of the same.

The second night market shall operate from 6:00PM to 12:00MN, Mondays to Sundays. No commercial structure, paraphernalia or goods may be displayed and/or sold before and after the designated hours of operation.

The Baban night market shall be open from September 5 to October 31 as part of the lined activities for the upcoming Zamboanga City Hermosa Festival 2022.

The city mayor may extend the operating hours to 02:00AM, if warranted, but operations of the Baban night market shall be under the direct supervision and control of the City Administrator who sits as vice chairperson of the NMC.

A temporary re-routing scheme shall be implemented for vehicles to ensure smooth traffic flow and to protect pedestrians. A parking space shall likewise be designated for vehicles and motorcycles.

For the public’s safety and protection, general restrictions shall be imposed to include the mandatory wearing of face masks, prohibition against the bringing of backpacks, bladed weapons, firearms, hazardous materials or chemicals, other harmful objects and the likes. Liquors, alcoholic beverages and other contrabands are likewise barred from the location. The wearing of bull caps, fedora hats, vests, bonnets, and jackets shall also be proscribed. Other restrictions may similarly be imposed by the NMC.

Subject to security checks, however, children aged 12 years and below may be allowed to wear jackets and head gear for their health protection. Recall that the City Government launched the Night Market in Rizal Street last August 15 with over 100 stalls offering wide array of products and services. It will run until Oct. 31 and forms part of the Hermosa 2022 activities as well. (Claudine Uniana)
