Mayor Khymer Olaso, together with City Legal Officer Atty. Evangelina Doctolero met with affected residents and property owners on Wednesday, August 13 in City Hall to address demolition issues in Barangay Zambowood, Zone IX and discuss lawful and orderly solutions.
The demolition forms part of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-9) road-widening project which involves the clearing of structures including homes and small businesses located along the designated road expansion area. According to DPWH-9 representatives, the affected property was formally acquired through legal procedures with notices of demolition issued to occupants in advance.
Atty. Doctolero explained that the matter has been resolved by both the Court of Appeals (CA) and the Regional Trial Court (RTC) whose rulings are now final and executory. She clarified that these decisions are binding and cannot be overturned by either the local or national government.
Meanwhile, Mayor Olaso underscored the importance of following due process and upholding the law while also expressing understanding for the illegal settlers’ situation. He assured the community that the City Government will work to identify possible support programs to help affected families adjust and recover.
City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) Coordinator Ma. Luz Agbayani and staff, City Housing and Land Management Division Chief Rodrigo Pagotaisidro, and other concerned offices also participated in the dialogue, ensuring that the project’s implementation is carried out in a lawful, orderly, and considerate manner for all stakeholders involved.
