The City Government of Zamboanga is preparing major flood control projects after Mayor Khymer Olaso personally inspected vulnerable areas in Barangays San Roque and Pasonanca, Thursday morning, September 18.

Accompanied by City Engineer Christopher Navarro, the mayor walked through sitios, the lone bridge and waterways, to identify urgent interventions that will help mitigate flooding. He also engaged residents, listening to their concerns and first-hand experiences of perennial flood problems.

Mayor Olaso directed the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to map out priority projects such as the construction of sheet piles, bridges and box culverts, along with the desilting of clogged waterways. He further committed to coordinate with the City Budget Office (CBO), to ensure funding as well as compliance with existing policies and ordinances.

Engr. Navarro pledged his office’s full support in drafting and implementing projects, stressing their commitment to safeguard communities from recurring floods.

Olaso stressed that the planned interventions in San Roque and Pasonanca are just one of the many projects the local government is pursuing to uplift the lives of Zamboangueños, assuring that ongoing efforts are meant to benefit not only specific barangays but the entire city.
