Per instruction of Mayor Beng Climaco, the City Engineer’s Office is currently undertaking a marathon inspection on all school buildings and other infrastructure projects of the city government after a covered court collapsed last week at Sinubong Elementary school, injuring eight students.
City Engineer Christopher Navarro said even before the covered court collapsed the mayor had already issued a memorandum for the inspection on all buildings and infrastructure projects in compliance with the National Building Code.
Results of the marathon inspection will be compiled for immediate action and stored data for future reference.
As of now, he said the JV Construction has done dismantling the collapsed roofing of the covered court at Sinubong NHS and starting to redo all construction activities on the entire covered court.
He added the three engineers, who were sacked over the collapsed covered court, had already submitted their respective answer and verified report which were in turn forwarded to the mayor’s office and City Legal Office for appropriate action.
Engr. Navarro said he has also advised the school principals not use/occupy those buildings that have shown cracks and other defects until these have been fully retrofitted to prevent untoward incidents on the students.
A case in point is the two-storey building with 6 classrooms at Lunzuran Elementary School that was reported to have cracks and reportedly shaking.-(Vic Larato)
