The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) chaired by Mayor Khymer Olaso convenes an emergency meeting Thursday, May 14, to coordinate measures to address potential impacts of a severe El Niňo expected to develop in the country.
The meeting, presided by CDRRMO head Dr. Elmeir Apolinario at the CDRRMO conference room sought to activate precautionary measures against drought, extreme heat and heat-related illnesses.
Per DOST-PAGASA forecast, an El Niño Alert is active, with a 79% chance of development between June and August 2026, potentially lasting until early 2027.
During the meeting various agencies presented their reports and proposed mitigating measures on food, water, health, and veterinary security.
Key city departments and agencies involved in monitoring and impkementing contingemcy plans are the offices of the City Agriculturist, City Health, City Veterinarian, CDRRMO, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Zamboanga City Water District, City Environment and Natural Resources, Bureau of Fire Pritection, and other agencies.
