Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday turned over the city government’s 200 pushcarts donation worth P3.6 million to the Zamboanga International Airport.

Climaco said the pushcarts are made of aluminum alloy with a 250kg capacity each and equipped with automatic rigs. Each push cart costs P18,000.

“This is our contribution to ensure the Zamboanga International Airport will be able to respond to the needs of air passengers in as far as carrying their baggage,” the mayor said at the press briefing.

The ZIA, covering a land area of 270 hectares, is the third busiest airport in Mindanao after Davao’s and Cagayan de Oro’s airports.

The airport’s terminal building has a capacity of 400 passengers. It houses a metal detector and an X-ray machine, both located at the main entrance of the airport and before entering the Pre-Departure Area. The terminal also has 2 baggage carousels.

In 2014, the United States government repaired the airport’s runway upon the urgent request of Mayor Beng.

When she was the city’s District I representative, Climaco, through her congressional initiative turned over sufficient number of push carts to the Zamboanga International Airport.

She likewise enrolled some employees of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in the city government-sponsored PhilHealth program.-(Vic Larato)
