The City Government continues to recognize Zamboangueño athletes who bring honor and pride to the city through their stellar performances in national competitions.

Mayor John Dalipe Monday morning feted the Zamboanga delegations who participated in the 1st Mindanao Invitational Judo Championships held in Davao City from August 3-4, the 9 th Gov. Emilou Lala Talino-Mendoza Karate Tournament and the 39 th Kadayawan sa Davao Invitational Arnis tournament held in Davao City from August 24-25.

The judo team captured 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals; the 39-man karate team garnered 30 gold, 13 silver and 20 bronze medals while the 37-strong arnis delegation reaped 17 gold, 26 silver and 14 bronze medals.

The athletes were presented during the flag raising ceremony at the City Hall grounds Monday morning.

Mayor Dalipe thanked the athletes for their outstanding achievements as he vowed to continue supporting the sports and youth development program to produce world-class athletes and ultimately ensure a better future for the young generation. (photo credits: Kathy Wee Sit)
