The Local School Board chaired by Mayor John Dalipe has hired additional 38 new teachers to augment the number of public elementary and secondary school teachers in the city.
The 38 newly-hired teachers were sworn into office by Mayor Dalipe recently. Of the total number, 7 were elementary teachers while 31 were secondary teachers.
This brings the total number of city-hired teachers to 204. Previously there were 42 elementary teachers and 124 secondary teachers for a total of 166 LSB teachers.
Mayor Dalipe congratulated the newly-hired teachers, as he urged them to make the most out of this opportunity afforded to them and to provide quality education to the young generation and ultimately help his administration achieve progress and development for Zamboanga City.
Basilio Uy of the City Schools Division Office said the new teachers will form part of the manpower provided by the local government to the Department of Education for Zamboanga City.
LSB teachers draw their salaries from the city’s Special Education Fund (SEF). They are also entitled to other benefits remunerations similar to LGU regular employees.
In previous years and months, the Deped absorbed qualified and deserving LSB teachers that, requiring the city government to hire new teachers to fill up the vacancies. (CMO-PIO)
