The Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVET) continues to intensify African Swine Fever (ASF) preventive measures, as affected barangays soared to 10 as of June 10, 2022.

Affected hog raisers increased to 211 while hog mortalities now total 794. Culled hogs reached 430.

The affected barangays are Canucutan in Pasonanca, Lower and Inner Mangusu, Udjong and Waray-waray in Bunguiao, Presa and Zone III in Curuan, Corote and Green Valley in Manicahan, Camino Nuevo in Vitali, Zone II in Dulian in Upper Bunguiao, Purok IV in Lumayang, Sinoropan in Licomo and Merloquet in Sibulao.

Mangusu recorded the most number of hog mortalities at 211 followed by Canucutan in Pasonanca with 180, Dulian with 141 and Vitali with 103 mortalities.

Assistant City Veterinarian Dr. Arnedo Agbayani said the OCVET is continuously intensifying border control and quarantine checkpoints as well as the information advocacy through the distribution of IEC materials.

Census and geotagging is also undertaken to prevent and control the spread of ASF.

Last June 10 the OCVET conducted disease investigation at Zone 7 in Boalan following reports of illnesses among hogs in the area.

On June 8, the office conducted depopulation at Zone III or market site in Curuan  as well as disease surveillance in Barangay Vitali specifically in Bataan, Tindalo and Riverside.

The OCVET calls on the hog raisers and the public anew to immediately report sudden death or illness affecting swine or pigs or hogs in their area so that contingency measures can be implemented as soon as possible. (Sheila Covarrubias)
