Thousands of women and men representing the cross-section of the community gather for the Marcha de las Mujeres, a purple walk for a cause campaign Friday, March 8, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Mayor John Dalipe and Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja along with other city officials spearheaded the celebration manifesting commitment to gender equality and women empowerment.

In his message, Mayor Dalipe reaffirmed his commitment to women empowerment and gender equality as he vowed to continuously exert efforts to come up with projects, programs and activities in support of women’s rights.

Organized by the City Government through the Gender and Development Focal System and the Local Council of Women- ZC Chapter, the march kicked off at Ledesma Street (fronting the BFP) and culminated at the Paseo del Mar where a brief program was held.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Participants in the march ranged from government officials to members of women’s organizations, NGOs, security, LGU, barangay/SK, schools, and hospitals, all united in their mission to support women’s rights and empowerment.

During the program held at Paseo del Mar, inspirational messages were shared by key officials, including Mayor Dalipe, Vice Mayor Pareja, Local Council of Women-ZC Chapter President Lilia Nuño, and other leaders in the community.
