Mayor John Dalipe Thursday extolled barangay tanods, the so-called security force multipliers for their dedication to work, as he cited their crucial role in keeping the barangays safe and secure.
In his message during the Skills Enhancement Training for the fourth batch of barangay tanods Thursday, February 1 at the Astoria Hotel.
Mayor Dalipe said the city government in collaboration with the Department of Interior and Local Government initiated the 2-day training to ensure that the force multipliers are capable and well-versed on their role in the barangay.
Barangay tanods, also known as barangay police officers, are the first responders as they perform a variety of police functions, Mayor Dalipe added.
The training, held in 5 batches for the 98 barangays from January 22 to February 6, consists of 4 modules that include the profile of a barangay tanod; Gender-sensitive, Child-friendly and culture-sensitive barangay tanod; First Responder’s role, and operations.
Resource speakers come from DILG-City Office, Commission on Human Rights-9 and the Zamboanga City Police Office.
The cluster 4 had its training from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 while the cluster 5 composed barangays Mariki, Arena Blanco, Tugbungan, Kasanyangan, Zones 1, 2, 3 and 4, Sta. Catalina, Lunzuran, Tetuan, Putik, Rio Hondo, Sta. Barbara, Tumaga, Sta. Maria, Mampang, Cabatangan and Dulian-Upper Pasonanca will have its training from Feb. 5-6. (Sheila Covarrubias)
