City earmarks P51M for agri sector

Demonstrating commitment to the agriculture sector, the City Government under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe has allocated a total of P51M to support plans and programs for local farmers and fisherfolks this 2024.

Acting City Agriculturist Arben Magdugo said the allocation is the biggest-ever in the 17-year history of the office and is a manifestation of the Dalipe administration’s great concern for the farmers and fisherfolks – the backbone of society.

In a press briefing in City Hall Tuesday, January 9, Magdugo said the P51M budget is intended for agri-fishery production input support as well as modernization.

Of the total amount, P28M will be used to purchase machineries for farmers while the remaining amount will be used for agri-fishery inputs such as high value crops (vegetables), corn and fertilizers among others.

Aside from the P51M budget for the agriculture sector, other offices such as the City Engineer’s Office has also lined up infrastructure projects

for the last 17 years and this is the only time that the LGU allocated P51m for agri==we are going to have a P5!M budgt intended for agri-fishery production input support as well as for modernization.

Among the pending infra projects at the CEO are the solar-powered irrigation systems for barangays Tolosa and Lanzones.

Meanwhle, Magdugo during the presscon also expressed elation that the national government has allocated a total of P355M for the construction of farm to market roads in Zamboanga City this year.

Of the total allocation, P90M worth of projects will be for District I and P265M for District II. (Bernadeth Lazaro)
