The City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) chaired by Mayor John Dalipe has scheduled a series of training activities for members of the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) or tanods from the city’s 98 barangays in line with the city government’s commitment to security and safety of the residents. 

Co-presided by Mayor Dalipe and Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja, he Council, during its first quarter meeting Tuesday, January 16, discussed the need to further enhance the skills and make BIN members more effective and efficient as security force multipliers in their respective communities. 

Per directive of Mayor Dalipe, the training of BIN members or tanods will cover lectures about basic intelligence, patrol operations, traffic management and disaster relief and rescue operations among other things. 

Jun Cillo of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)- City Office, who serves as CPOC secretariat said the training will be done in 5 batches and will start January 22 until mid-February. 

Each barangay will send 5 BIN member-participants, who will in turn re-echo their learnings to fellow tanods in their respective communities. 

Meanwhile, the CPOC through the initiative of Councilor VP Elago approved a resolution requesting the city’s 98 barangays to toughen security efforts through night patrols, beat patrols and other security measures in light of increasing robbery cases and other crimes recently. 

The Council also tackled the accomplishment reports of the different security units to include the Zamboanga City Police Office, Task Force Zamboanga, Philippine Coast Guard- Zamboanga station, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Zamboanga City Fire Station and the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center as well as the proposal to create the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) Committee.
