Urban Poor Solidarity Week set Dec 1-8

The City Government gears up for the celebration of the 2023 Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW) from Dec. 2-8 with the theme “Un unido comunidad para na progreso y desarollo del Ciudad.”

In a meeting facilitated by the Housing and Land Management Division (HLMD) under the Office of the City Mayor Wednesday afternoon, the Inter-Agency Committee, tasked to take charge of the preparations, finalized the details of the series of activities that will take place during the week-long UPSW celebration.

Activities set for the celebration include a medical mission on Dec. 2; Solidarity Walk and program from the City Hall grounds to the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex or grandstand in Baliwasan on Dec. 3 and the UPSW Convention to be attended by hundreds of presidents and leaders of urban poor groups and other related organizations from Dec. 4-8 and the closing program.

Mayor John Dalipe will spearhead the activities, along with the Congressional representatives and officials from the Social Housing and Finance Corporation, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, Human Settlements Adjudication Commission, Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, Gender and Development under the Office of the City Mayor and other agencies,  to demonstrate commitment to the urban poor sector.

The Urban Poor Solidarity Week from Dec. 2-8 is pursuant to Proclamation 367 and is intended to promote greater understanding of the issues and problems on urban poverty, and to foster unity and dialogue among the urban poor, government agencies and NGOs.

The activity is spearheaded by the HLMD under the Office of the City Mayor in collaboration with the Zamboanga City Homeowners and People’s Organization Federation (ZCHPOF) Inc. and other agencies. (Sheila Covarrubias)
