Mayor John Dalipe Monday cites the security sector, canning factories, participants, organizers and other stakeholders for the successful conduct of the sail boat race Regatta and the Wow Sardinas Boodle Fight Sunday, Oct. 8.
In his message during the flag raising ceremony Monday, Oct. 9, in City Hall Mayor Dalipe said the canning factories donated 21,000 cans of sardines that led to a record-breaking boodle fight of 1 kilometer long at the R.T. Lim Boulevard. With this feat, the mayor expressed the possibility of submitting the event as an entry into the World Guinness Book of Records next year.
Through Dalipe’s initiative, the city government revived the Wow Sardinas, a sardine-eating spectacle, this year after a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic break.
While the Regatta illustrated the city’s rich and colorful history and tradition, the Wow Sardinas underscored the city’s title as the Sardines Capital of the Philippines. Both were highlights of the 2023 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival celebration.
The successful conduct of the 2 events as well as the other city-initiated Hermosa events was a result of the hard work and dedicated efforts of the security sector, the participants, organizers, other stakeholders and the residents of the city.
Meanwhile, the chief executive invited residents and visitors alike to continue support and to participate in the remaining activities, as the Hermosa Festival reaches its peak this week.
Nonetheless, he said the festival “is a celebration not only of colors, events, and activities but of culture, as we honor the heritage, values and tradition that make our city truly special and unique.” “No kita olvida el verdad significancia y importancia del celebracion – el fiesta del Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, el patrona del Ciudad.” (Sheila Covarrubias)
