Upon orders of Mayor John Dalipe, personnel from the City Administrator’s Office, City Engineer’s Office undertake clearing operations at the vacant lot located in Valderrosa and Rizal Streets to pave way for its use as a public parking space.
Assistant City Administrator for City Affairs Rodolfo Saavedra Jr. said the property is owned by a private entity who has agreed to Mayor Dalipe’s appeal to allow the use of the property as parking space in light of the LGU’s unrelenting campaign against illegal parking in city streets.
The property, located beside the former Tsokolate Restaurant in Valderrosa Street, will be utilized as public parking space catering to four-wheel vehicles, according to Saavedra.
Recall that Mayor Dalipe has intensified negotiations with private lot owners for the provision of additional parking spaces in the city amid the no-let up campaign against illegal parking in city streets pursuant to Ordinance 601 in accordance with DILG Memorandum Circular 2016-121.
The road clearing operations started June 5 concentrating on streets surrounding City Hall and was expanded to other areas in the city.
Aside from the property beside former Tsokolate Restaurant, others areas that the city intends to convert into a public parking spaces are the vacant lot fronting Police Station 11 and beside the Metrobank-Gov. Lim Branch and several others. (Sheila Covarrubias)
