The oath-taking ceremonies of the members of the Local Council for Culture, Arts, and History (LCCAH) and the 1st Chabacano Summit will highlight the 12th Dia de Fundacion de Chabacano set Friday, June 23.
Mayor John Dalipe will lead this year’s celebrations, which will officially kick off with the 1st Chabacano Summit from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Astoria Regency. Five esteemed speakers and subject-matter experts will be discussing the history of the Chabacano language, its orthography, grammar, and structure, and its place in modern society.
The main program for the Dia de Fundacion de Chabacano will commence at 7 PM. Highlight of the program will be the oath-taking ceremonies of the Local Council for Culture, Arts, and History (LCCAH).
The LCCAH was reconstituted by Mayor John last April thru Executive Order JD 2023-040. The LCCAH is tasked to preserve, restore, and promote the Chabacano language, and the history and culture of Zamboanga City.
The Dia de Fundacion de Chabacano is an annual observance that seeks to promote, preserve, and propagate the Chabacano language, pursuant to Ordinance 374 authored by City Councilor Vincent Paul Elago.
It is celebrated every 23rd of June, in recognition of the fact that the Chabacano language traces its roots back to June 23, 1635, the date when the cornerstone of the Fort Pilar was laid. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
