The City Engineer’s Office (CEO) is closely monitoring the status of its flood control program, slope protection, drainage systems and other related projects to ensure their timely completion.
The move is in response to Mayor John Dalipe’s directive to city engineer Chris Navarro to fast track the repair of slope protection and similar projects in time for the rainy season.
During yesterday morning’s press briefing, CEO’s Engr. Dianah de Guzman gave a rundown of all completed and ongoing civil works as well as those still to be implemented.
As per Engr. de Guzman, the office is focusing on ongoing slope protection projects particularly in Curuan Mina, which was one of the most affected when Severe Tropical Storm Paeng hit the city. Similar projects are also being constructed in Divisoria, San Roque, Guisao, Patalon, Limpapa, Lunzuran, Lumbangan, Putik, Vitali, Bunguiao, Cabaluay, Ayala, Manicahan and Cabatangan.
Two riprap systems in Pasonanca are set to be rehabilitated/improved soon.
Drainage systems are likewise being constructed/rehabilitated/improved in barangays Sta. Maria, Talon-Talon, Zone IV, Sangali and along Tetuan-Kasanyangan.
To improve water flow in the city’s waterways, dredging and desiltation activities are currently being conducted to remove the accumulation of silt materials from the Limpapa, Putik and Vitali riverbeds.
“As you can see, mucho ya kita maga proyecto. Este gat el direccion, el directiva del de aton mayor,” the lady engineer said, explaining that the office is doing its best to prepare the city for the rainy season.
“We cannot tell. This is climate change. We don’t know fuerte ba o hinde. What damage or cosa este ase so we really have to make sure that all these flood control projects will be implemented ya gayot to really address our flood issues,” she continued.
Aside from focusing on its flood control and slope protection program, the City Engineer’s Office is also undertaking road concreting and rehabilitation works. (Claudine Uniana)
