A total of 60 job applicants were hired on the spot during the day-long job fair held in line with the 121st Labor Day celebration at the KCC Mall in Gov. Camins Monday, May 1.
As of 5pm May 1, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 9 through the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) recorded 60 applicants hired on the spot (HOTS) which represents 13% placement rate.
The DOLE likewise reported that over 1,500 applicants registered during the job fair, of which, 1,083 registered online and 477 submitted applications face-to-face.
The May 1 Job Fair was one of the series of activities conducted to celebrate Labor Day which was themed Pabahay, Bilihing Abot Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho para sa Manggagawang Pilipino to recognize laborers for their hard work, perseverance and contribution to economic growth.
Organized by the DOLE 9 in collaboration with other agencies, the Labor Day celebration was highlighted by the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) by the DOLE and Mayor John Dalipe for Jobstart Philippines, a program aimed to further improve employment facilitation services and the turnover of starter school kits by TESDA to beneficiaries aside from the day-long job fair making available thousands of job opportunities to local residents.
The celebration also included the Kadiwa ng Pangulo para sa Manggagawang Pilipino program to help workers buy commodities at lower prices and the distribution of assistance and salaries to beneficiaries of various DOLE programs that amounted to some P44.5 million.
The celebration wrapped up with the Talentadong Obreros which showcased the talents of members of the different labor groups in the city. (Sheila Covarrubias)
