Mayor Beng Climaco has ordered the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to review the readiness of all its fire stations to respond to emergencies.

Following the fire incident in Curuan on Saturday, June 2, Climaco ordered city Fire Marshal Supt. Jhufel Brañanola to immediately review and evaluate all fire stations in the city, including the readiness of its personnel and equipment for emergency situations.

Climaco recounted that residents noted difficulties in the fire response as the fire truck in the nearest fire station was not working.

“I told him [Brañanola] immediately to review all of the fire stations, conduct an evaluation, and ensure that all of the fire trucks are in good running condition,” Climaco said during a TV interview Thursday, June 7.

This, she lamented, will be a perennial problem unless the BFP sees to the maintenance and upkeep of its trucks.

“It is a mandate of the BFP to really have fire trucks ready and available because tiene sila gane sila di ila own separate budget,” she said, adding that the local government, for its part, will help augment the Bureau’s needs.

Local government resources were immediately mobilized to provide relief assistance to the 69 families displaced by the fire incident which resulted in damage to properties at P 3M.
