The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) chaired by Mayor Beng Climaco Wednesday approved a resolution allocating no less than P1M to help alleviate the plight of victims of the December 15 earthquake that hit the towns of Padada, Matanao and Magsaysay in Davao del Sur.
The resolution is subject to the concurrence of the City Council.
CDRRM Officer Dr. Elmeir Apolinario said the victims are in dire need of food, water, sanitary kits, tents and other sleeping gears.
The City Government is coming to the aid of the earthquake victims as a way of giving back as Zamboanga City was also supported and assisted by the different local government units when the city was in distress in the aftermath of the 2013 siege, according to Apolinario.
Last November, the City also sent relief goods for distribution to families and individuals affected by the earthquake in Davao del Sur and North Cotabato. The relief goods consisted of rice, canned goods, water, coffee, blankets and kitchen wares.
The assistance was based on a CDRRMC resolution appropriating some P5M for the purchase of relief goods which were transported to Davao City in two tranches – first through Philippine Coast Guard’s MV Bagacay and the second, through land in a convoy led by the CDRRMO.
The latest CDRRMC resolution was sponsored by Councilor El King Omaga and approved by all the membes. (Sheila Covarrubias)
