The Philippine Marine Corps has recognized Mayor Beng Climaco for her commitment to support the security forces particularly to the Marine Battalion Landing Team 11 (MBLT11) that significantly contributed to the successful accomplishment of the corps’ mission.
Climaco was presented with a plaque of recognition by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Noel Clement and Philippine Marine Commandant MGen. Nathaniel Casem during the Corps’ 69th anniversary celebration in Manila recently.
Specifically, the mayor was cited for her invaluable service of supporting MBLT 11 “by assisting the unit in performing the mission ranging from intensive security operations to civil engagements particularly in the East Central Areas of Zamboanga and by providing additional assets that greatly boosted the unit’s capability which significantly contributed to the successful accomplishments of the mission of the Corps.”
Through Climaco’s flagship program Security Health and Education (SHE), the City Government has appropriated over 1.9 billion for projects and programs for the security sector over the last 5 years.
The support comes in the form of motor vehicles – both for land and sea; firearms and ammunitions; radio communication facilities; capability trainings and allowances among others.
The strong LGU support to the security sector in Zamboanga City has contributed to the zero bombing, zero kidnapping and zero-piracy incidents in the city in the last 3 years. (Sheila Covarrubias)
