The flooding spawned by heavy rains last September 13 destroyed slope protection projects in 12 barangays costing a total of P48M.

This is in addition to the damages inflicted on agricultural crops, fishponds and seaweed farms including private houses and properties in various barangays.

Engr. Joy Lee of the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) said the breakdown of the damage to city government infra projects is as follows:  Putik- P3.6M; Divisoria – P9.46M; Guiwan – P10.4M; Lunzuran- P2.78M; Tumaga – P5.6M; Sta. Maria – P2.3M;  San Roque – P2.88M; Sinunuc- P1.33M;  Maasin – P453K; Tulungatung – P280K;  Patalon – P2.66M and Labuan – P5. 33M.

All of the projects that were damaged were old projects and are beyond the warranty period, thus, the city government will spend for the repair of the same.

Engr. Lee said the CEO is now preparing the plans and estimates for the immediate repair of the damaged facilities. On the other hand, the CEO is continuously undertaking declogging activities to help prevent flooding in major streets downtown. These areas include Mayor Climaco Street, Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in Divisoria, ZCPO main, P. Lorenzo Steet, P. Reyes Street, Cervantes Street, Sevilla Street, Legionnaire street, Sta. Barbara, Pilar Street, Sta. Maria and Baliwasan Grande. (Sheila Covarrubias)
